Rendered Ghosts of Changi Airport
Dérive, 2020
Absence – “The state of being away from a place or person”
Absence is evident anywhere and everywhere in times like this. In the absence of humans, these rendered ghosts, wander around in our imagination in these architectural structures. Travelers and tourists are not within our sight, evoking a sense of absence and emptiness in Singapore Changi Airport. To fill this emptiness and void, these rendered ghosts take on the roles of the travelers ensuring a familiarity in our sight. These pieces put together a journey of the unknown ‘beings’ living within the sanctuary of Singapore Changi Airport.
A New Chapter
Looking Forward, 2020
Life seems a little different around here. It feels as though we’re moving from one page to another without knowing how the book will end. Are we becoming one with our surroundings? Is that all there is in this neighborhood? I try to capture the essence of how my neighborhood has evolved through this pandemic.
Here we are, at chapter 1.
"That's Just You"
A Self Portrait
What is the first thing you eyes notice when you see me? I am an Indian. I am a dark-skinned girl, falling under the minority circle in this country.
We live in a community with much diversity yet fall short in diversifying our views. These words you see have journeyed with me through many phases of my life, in various forms and have somewhat become attached to me and I have grown to have my identity shaped by the outside world rather than discovering it myself.
I incorporated different mediums to portray how racism, particularly to me, has involved itself in my identity, appearance, and language, deeply impacting the portrayal of who I am as an individual.
